Maag Group: Gear Pump for Rigid PVC and Flexible Pelletizing

At Fakuma 2026, the Maag Group will present solutions for polymer processing. The company’s showcase will focus on a new gear pump for rigid PVC, a strand pelletizer for frequent product changes and an optical offline inspection system.

With the “extrex⁶ EC” gear pump, Maag is presenting a solution for the continuous conveying of rigid PVC. This thermally sensitive material tends to form deposits and degrade when residence times are prolonged. A gap-free design without dead zones is intended to prevent material from adhering to or remaining inside the pump.

The uniform, pressure-stable conveying process reduces the load on the extruder. Depending on the application, this can increase throughput or reduce the extruder’s energy consumption while maintaining the same throughput. The pump also lowers the thermal stress on the melt, potentially reducing the need for stabilizers. According to Maag, the system was tested as part of a multi-year development partnership with Rehau and has already been installed at a Rehau plant in Spain.

Maag will also showcase the “Primo 60 E” strand pelletizer for the production of masterbatches, compounds and specialty polymers. The machine is designed for smaller batches, varying material properties and frequent product changes. Easy access, fast cleaning and short tooling change times are intended to reduce downtime between production runs.

The measurement technology portfolio is complemented by Sikora’s “Purity Concept V” offline inspection system. The camera-based system analyzes pellets, flakes and test plates for contamination and discoloration. According to the manufacturer, it detects black or colored particles as small as 50 µm. Inspection takes less than one minute, after which the system generates an inspection certificate and an HSV color map of the detected deviations.
