Dreyplas: New Additives and Recycled Carbon Fibers for Engineering Plastics

Dreyplas is expanding its portfolio of materials for modifying engineering and high-performance plastics with para-aramid powder, specialty graphite grades, hexagonal boron nitride, and chopped carbon fibers derived from post-consumer recyclates. The new products will be showcased at Fakuma 2026.

Additives for Tribological Applications
The new para-aramid powder is designed, among other applications, for use in thermoplastic compounds. With a density of approximately 1.44 g/cm³, it offers high resistance to temperature and chemicals as well as low thermal conductivity. When used in plastic compounds, it can help enhance tribological performance.

Dreyplas has also added specialty graphite grades from Nippon Graphite Industries to its portfolio. Available in flake, spherical, and lamellar forms, the products cover particle sizes from 5 to 350 µm and bulk densities ranging from 0.08 to 0.53 g/cm³. They are intended for applications requiring reduced friction and wear.

Dreyplas is also offering high-purity hexagonal boron nitride under the "SHOBN-UHP" product series. The platelet-shaped powder is available with average particle sizes of 0.7, 8, and 11 µm. In thermoplastics, it can improve sliding and mold-release properties while combining thermal conductivity and thermal stability with corrosion resistance and dielectric performance.

Carbon Fibers from Recycled Feedstock
The expanded portfolio also includes chopped carbon fibers from Nippon Polymer Sangyo. The fibers are produced from post-consumer recycled material sourced, among other applications, from wind turbine blades and pressure vessels.

Designed to reinforce engineering plastics, the fibers can help reduce creep while improving dimensional stability and mechanical performance. The use of secondary raw materials can also reduce the amount of virgin carbon fiber required in the resulting compounds.
