Rowasol: New natural colorants expand biobased liquid colour range

(Photo: Rowasol).
Rowasol GmbH, based in Pinneberg, has expanded the colour spectrum of its biobased liquid colours in the "Rowasol GreenLine" product range. At Fakuma 2026, the company will present the new colour palette at its own stand in Hall B1 and at FKuR’s stand in Hall B4.

According to the company, the additional colorants are 100 percent biobased. Raw material sources include turmeric root, radish, algae, tomatoes, wood or lignin, and indigo. The inclusion of further raw material sources and suppliers has broadened the range of base colours. Blends and shade adjustments are intended to enable additional customer-specific shades. The previous portfolio comprised selected natural colorants, a natural black and a mineral white.

For an initial comparison, Rowasol processed the new colorants under uniform conditions: at a single concentration in each case, in the same bioplastic and at a processing temperature of 180 °C. The samples show the colour palette achieved under these conditions. According to the company, other dosing levels, blends and shade adjustments are possible.

FKuR Kunststoff GmbH supplied the biobased injection moulding compound "Bio-Flex S 7514" for the trials. According to FKuR, the material has a calculated biobased carbon content of 75 percent and offers good flowability and high heat deflection resistance.

Rowasol is also working on the composition of the carrier system. According to the company, the biobased content of the liquid colours currently stands at a minimum of 75 percent. In initial optimised formulations, the biobased content of the carrier was increased to more than 96 percent by reducing non-biobased components. This figure refers to the carrier system, rather than the liquid colour product as a whole. Rowasol is also in discussions with several suppliers of biobased surfactants. The aim is a fully biobased carrier system.
