Austrian injection moulding machine manufacturer Engel expects revenue of around EUR 1.55 billion for the 2026/27 financial year. This would represent an increase of approximately ten percent compared with the previous year. The company reports a pick-up in demand in certain regions and application areas, but does not yet see signs of a broad-based recovery in the injection moulding machinery market. North America Benefits from Reshoring of Production In the United States, investments that had previously been postponed and the relocation of manufacturing capacity back to the country are generating new projects. Demand for large, highly automated systems is increasing particularly in technical injection moulding, including applications such as housings, piping, and cooling and electrical components for data centres. Additional demand is coming from water infrastructure, household goods manufacturing and the packaging industry. In the automotive sector, new vehicle programmes and previously deferred projects are supporting business. Europe Invests Selectively According to the company, more enquiries in Europe are once again being converted into orders. Small and medium-sized processors in particular are replacing older injection moulding machines or expanding their existing production facilities. Demand is evident in applications including household products, construction and water infrastructure, logistics solutions, toys and medical technology. By contrast, investment activity among automotive suppliers remains weak due to financial pressures and cost-cutting measures imposed by vehicle manufacturers. Engel identifies in-mould coating of exterior automotive components as a potential application, offering an alternative to downstream painting processes. In the packaging industry, changes surrounding the EU Packaging Regulation are making investment planning more difficult. At the same time, Engel reports growing interest in all-electric injection moulding technology with lower energy consumption. India Grows, China Remains Challenging In India, the market has recovered following a temporary downturn. Capacity expansions, the establishment of local manufacturing operations and infrastructure investments are increasing demand for machinery. Engel is observing similar drivers in Africa. In China, however, overcapacity, price pressure and weaker demand from the automotive sector are dampening investment activity. The company sees potential in electronics, semiconductor manufacturing and humanoid robotics. The focus in these areas is on machine concepts designed to reduce material consumption and unit costs. Manufacturing, Partnerships and Technology Engel is expanding its European manufacturing network with a new site in Kikinda, Serbia. In addition, a cooperation agreement with French injection moulding machine manufacturer Billion provides for Billion to continue servicing its installed machines, while Engel will act as the recommended supplier of new machines. Beyond new machinery, Engel highlights its service offerings, retrofits, modernisation projects and machine relocations for its global installed base of more than 125,000 machines.
