BYK has introduced three new adhesion promoters for thermoplastic multimaterial applications. The products "Scona TSPE 1013 GALL", "Scona TSPP 4012 GB" and "Scona TSPP 5013 GB" are designed to improve the bonding of polyethylene or polypropylene to polar materials such as metals and wood. The company is presenting them at "Fakuma 2026".The adhesion promoters are intended to enable molecular interactions at the interface between the materials, thereby increasing bond strength and long-term durability. BYK lists pipe coatings, protective coatings for metal packaging and components for construction, automotive, electronics and consumer goods as potential applications. Such composites can combine properties of different materials, including barrier performance, mechanical stability and surface characteristics. "Scona TSPP 4012 GB" is based on a chemically modified linear polypropylene copolymer and was developed for single- and multilayer PP films on metal and comparable polar substrates. "Scona TSPE 1013 GALL" is a chemically modified linear low-density polyethylene for PE-based film and composite systems. Both products are functionalised with maleic anhydride, are supplied as granules and, according to the manufacturer, are suitable for extruded films, fibres and sheets. "Scona TSPP 5013 GB" is intended for bonding polypropylene to MDF and particleboard. According to the company, the product achieves high adhesion using various activation methods. Details of these methods and quantitative test results are not provided. According to BYK, "Scona TSPP 4012 GB" achieved a seal strength of 35 N/15 mm on aluminium and more than 45 N/15 mm on steel in internal laboratory tests. For "Scona TSPE 1013 GALL", the company reports higher peel forces than those achieved with a reference product, both when used neat and at a concentration of 30 percent in LLDPE. The announcement does not include absolute measurements, detailed test conditions or the name of the reference product. According to the manufacturer, the new adhesion promoters are already being used on commercial extrusion lines. BYK reports high process stability but does not specify production parameters or identify users.
