Jokey: RecyClass Certification for PP Recyclates at Nine European Sites

The Jokey Group has expanded its certified verification system for the use of mechanically recycled polypropylene (PP) in its plastic packaging. All eight production sites in the European Union, as well as the plant in Serbia, have been certified under the "RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification Scheme". The certification complements the existing verification system based on EN 15343 and establishes a uniform audit framework for tracing the PP recyclates used and verifying declared recycled content.

Traceability and Material Verification
The certification scheme developed by the cross-industry initiative "RecyClass" is based on EN 15343:2007 and the controlled blending model defined in ISO 22095:2020. Independent certification bodies audit documented material flows to verify the traceability of recycled plastics throughout production processes and the declared recycled content of manufactured products. Information on the origin of the materials used is also recorded. The audit results can be used to support customers' material declarations, supply chain documentation and sustainability reporting.

Requirements of the EU Packaging Regulation
The certification is linked to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The regulation stipulates mandatory minimum levels of post-consumer recycled content for certain plastic packaging, generally from 2030 or in accordance with the applicable implementation deadlines. For other plastic packaging, the minimum recycled content requirement is set at 35 percent, while different thresholds and exemptions apply to other packaging categories. The certification supports consistent documentation of the quantities of recycled materials used across production sites. Jokey does not specify recycled content percentages for individual packaging products in its announcement.
