EGN: €16 Million Investment in Plastics Recycling Plant in Krefeld – Cooperation with Vogt-Plastic

EGN Entsorgungsgesellschaft Niederrhein mbH is investing approximately €16 million in a new facility for the mechanical processing of plastic packaging at its Krefeld site in Germany. As a long-term cooperation partner, Vogt-Plastic GmbH, based in Rheinfelden, will handle the further processing and marketing of the prepared plastics. The plant is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2028.

According to EGN, the new facility is designed to process around 36,000 tonnes of plastic packaging annually. The focus will be on rigid plastic packaging from household collections, which will be prepared for further material recycling.

At the Krefeld site, the plastic waste will initially be shredded, washed and separated. This process will produce defined grades of ground plastic material, which will subsequently undergo further processing and refinement at Vogt-Plastic in Rheinfelden. The resulting secondary raw materials are intended to serve as feedstock for new products in the plastics processing industry.

With this investment, EGN is expanding its Krefeld site by adding a new business segment in plastics recycling. According to current plans, the project is also expected to create new jobs, although no details have been provided regarding the number of positions.

Vogt-Plastic specializes in the preparation and further processing of plastic waste from household collections. The family-owned company, headquartered in Rheinfelden, produces PE, PP and PS recyclates, among other products, for the plastics processing industry.
