The German Institute for Recycling publishes a largely extended new release of a technical market report that now comprises more than 100 globally available biopolymers. The brand-new market report, available from mid April 2009, provides precise information on technical parameters and processing characteristics of globally available biodegradable plastics and plastics made from renewable resources. More than 100 polymers, submitted by more than 40 manufacturers have been included in the report. In addition to information provided by manufacturers, the report also provides independent data for a number of polymers. The data was derived from material tests carried out by the Institute for Recycling according to DIN-standards. The report that was first published in 2006 has been completely updated and substantially extended. Additional information on more than 50 new bioplastics has been included since the first release version. A new chapter "Bioplastics – Economic opportunity or temporary phenomenon?" provides a detailed overview of the current situation of the international bioplastics market as well as an outlook on the expected development for the next few years. The report also includes a comparative analysis that investigates differences and consistencies between bio-plastics and conventional plastics in key material parameters. The report thus provides a comprehensive basis for plastic manufacturers and processors who are considering entering the bioplastics market.
