Gneuss: Rotary Melt Filtration Systems Meet the Toughest Requirements of Polymerisation applications

In order to manufacture polymers economically, the production process must operate without disturbances and the final product must be of a consistently high quality. For this reason, the melt filter (usually located downstream of the discharge pump of the reactor) plays a key role. The Gneuss Rotary Filtration Systems (www.gneuss.com) reliably meet the high requirements of the polymerisation industry and ensure trouble free production processes.

Whatever material (for example polyamide/nylon, polyester for example) is being manufactured on an industrial scale, the requirements of the raw material manufacturer on the filtration technology are always the same. The filtration system must have a short melt residence time and of course it must be ensured that it removes contamination quickly and reliably. It is also important, that during filter element changes, the material being produced does not deviate from the specification. The Filtration System must operate pressure constant and with a high level of automation, it must operate safely and be extremely reliable.

With the Filtration Systems SFXmagnus and RSFgenius, Gneuss Kunststofftechnik exactly matches the raw material manufacturer´s wish list. The systems are suitable for throughput rates of up to 32 tonnes per hour. Both systems are characterised by the well known rotary disc principle, whereby the disc is encapsulated between two blocks thereby ensuring that no contact takes place between the medium being filtered and the environment. A sealed door provides access for replacing the filter elements. Dead areas in the melt flow are avoided by a streamlined design of the melt channel and the residence time is reduced to a minimum. SFXmagnus and RSFgenius operate automatically - time and pressure dependent. Both systems guarantee practically 100 % availability. The main advantages of the Gneuss Filtration Systems are that thanks to the fact that they were designed with processing technology in mind, neither "off grade", strand breaks, nor colour variations are caused during filter element changes. Together with the high availability of the equipment, this has a decisive effect on the economic efficiency of the whole line.
