Separation AG (www.separation-ag.com), based in Eynatten, Belgium, has been providing sorting services with stationary units for the large scale plastics and processing industry for almost ten years. As part of a cooperation with the logistics specialists Schmidt Heilbronn GmbH & Co. KG, who operate throughout Europe, the firm is now using one of world´s most modern mobile units for the optical separation of plastics at its Schmidt Iberica S.A. location in Tarragona, Spain. In addition to greatly simplifying handling for mutual customers, this alliance offers a comprehensive, quick and economical sorting service, particularly for large volumes and commodities. The unit, installed in a 20-foot refrigerated container, is mounted on a semi-trailer chassis, so it is easy to transport. It is ready for operation within a few minutes. As well as the unit´s packaged material feed capability, it can also be placed and operated directly below a silo, taking advantage of the unit´s full performance levels of up to 5 t/h. The completely redesigned unit, which works with a specially developed airstream ejector and illumination system, has had additional modules incorporated. Among others, these include two 5-stage conical screen separators for the removal of dust from the product and two newly developed screening units with integrated ionisation modules that ensure reliable separation of fines, longs and double grains. The whole optoelectronic unit can be monitored and controlled from any location through the existing UMTS and WLAN connections. In addition to wet cleaning (IP65), the unit also provides precise ambient air temperature control of the container interior of between -35° and +30°C as well as relative humidity regulation. Filtering of the air for compliance with clean room conditions is optionally available. This opens up a wide range of possible uses and areas of application for the unit, not only in the plastics industry.
