Polyvinylbutyral alcohol-based glossy pigment inks with high color strength for surface printing on a broad
spectrum of plastic films.

2. Product safety
Intended application
This printing ink series (this product) is intended for printing primary food packaging.
Compliance with requirements
For compliance with the regulations of EU food law we draw attention to www.siegwerk.com/productsafety, "Customer

Products of this ink series are only suitable for printing on the side of the packaging facing away from the food under the
proviso that they have been processed according to the data from this technical data sheet and in compliance with
applicable good manufacturing practice. Printers, refiners and packers/fillers have a legal responsibility to ensure that the
finished article is suitable for the intended use and that ink and coating components do not migrate into the food beyond
statutory limits or those normal in the industry.

3. Properties / Substrates
- Optimized gloss for surface printing
- Improved bond at low web temperatures, especially on coextruded polypropylenes and poorly coronapretreated
polyethylene and polypropylene
- Free of binder resins and additives containing chlorine
- Series 97-1 is usually only limited resistant to water in surface printing. If the requested water resistance
should be above average (e.g. frozen foods packaging, PE-fertilizer bags), the suitability has to be checked
in advance or the print has to be over lacquered with an appropriate OPV.
- This series is not intended for a universal application in reverse printing. We recommend our reliable series
97-4. Also less demanding compounds, as e.g. OPP/OPP, are possible with the inks and an appropriate
"laminating White". If coated materials, as e.g. PVdC and certain acryl types are applied, the processing
suitability has to be checked before printing principally.
- These inks are suitable for being deep-drawn. We recommend to use the 10-601006-9 NA 2K 15
OVERPRINT VARNISH-SL to protect the inks.

Substrates:
Immediate adhesion and good to very good bond values are normally achieved on the following substrates:
- In-line corona-pretreated polyester, with min. 52 mN/m surface tension (e.g. Hostaphan RNK, Mylar A,
Melinex 800)
- Inline corona-pretreated, primered polyester (e.g. Terphane 10.21, Melinex 813, Hostaphan 2600, Skyrol
SP 81)
