Tanrıkulu: Turkish plastics recycler enters the PET bottle-to-bottle market - New line from Starlinger

The plastics recycler Tanrıkulu, based near Istanbul, Turkey, has commissioned its new Starlinger "recoStar PET 215 iV+" bottle-to-bottle recycling system in the last quarter of 2023.

According to the machine manufacturer, the PET bottle-to-bottle system is the second plastic recycling system from Starlinger that Tanrıkulu has installed. It is now in operation at Tanrıkulu's PET plant in Akyazı, Sakarya province, in Turkey's Marmara region. The recycling system processes post-consumer PET bottle regrind and reportedly has a production capacity of 2.4 tonnes per hour. Tanrıkulu supplies the rPET granulate in bottle quality to customers in Turkey and abroad.

The "recoStar PET 215 iV+" recycling system is equipped with a special cartridge filter that reduces production waste, increases output and ensures a high-purity melt. The backflush melt filter, known as the DPC 4000, works continuously with two screen carrier bolts and four screen positions. With a total of approx. 4,000 square centimetres, the filtration area is 2.4 times larger than when using standard screens and filters the melt to a fineness of 56 μm. Another major advantage is the high process stability, as 75 per cent of the filtration surface is said to be available during the screen change and backwashing process in the filtration process. The DPC 4000 cartridge filter is said to significantly reduce melt loss during backwashing and generally improve system performance.

"With our ongoing investments in PET recycling, we want to protect our social and cultural environment and nature for future generations by closing the packaging loop. Every discarded PET bottle should become a new PET bottle again," says İzzet Tanrıkulu, General Manager of the Tanrıkulu Group of Companies. "Starlinger is one of the leading technology suppliers in the field of PET bottle-to-bottle recycling. Starlinger's PET recycling process has been approved by international brand owners in the food and beverage sector and by key authorities such as the FDA and EFSA. Our goal is to improve the impact that plastic packaging has on the environment by combining the latest technology with our vast experience in recycling, reducing both plastic waste and resource consumption."

About the Tanrıkulu Group
With currently seven plastic recycling and production facilities at several locations in the provinces of Kocaeli and Sakarya and a total workforce of over 500 employees, the Tanrıkulu Group of Companies is one of the leading plastic recyclers in Turkey. Tanrıkulu was founded in 1989 and started as a paper, glass and metal recycling company in Istanbul. After expansions in 2006 and 2014, the company focussed on plastic recycling and the production of PET film.

Tanrıkulu already operates a Starlinger "recoStar dynamic" recycling plant for HDPE and PP in Başiskele, Kocaeli province, and has now entered the PET bottle-to-bottle recycling market with another Starlinger recycling plant. In addition to the production of regranulate from plastic waste, the Group also has a plant for the production of PET film in Cayirova, Kocaeli province.

According to the final figures, Tanrıkulu recycles a total of 40,000 tonnes of post-consumer PET and 45,000 tonnes of other plastics such as PP, HDPE and LDPE per year and also exports its products to customers in neighbouring countries, Europe and overseas.
