J&A offers now PA-based co-polymers from Nycoa

The Krefeld-based compounder, J&A Plastics (www.j-a.de), has expanded its product range to include the high-tech and extrusion nylons of the US-American company, Nycoa. At the FAKUMA 2005, it will premier the products, which – among other things – include a transparent polyamide that, for certain applications, represents an inexpensive substitute for PA12. The sole sales concession for the product range of Nycoa in Europe, which specializes in nylons, is a further result of the strategic partnerships with Grupo Repol.

The product range of Nycoa (NYlon COperation of America, Manchester, New Hampshire), which has been developing and manufacturing thermoplastic plastics for the processing industry for almost 50 years, includes undiluted and reinforced products made from PA6 and PA66 as well as special nylons. The co-polymers NycoTrans (PA6/69) and NycoFlex (PA6), in particular, offer competitive advantages within the European market. Of further interest are the NycoPoly products made from PA6/66 for barrier films and monofilament extrusions and the NycoNano products made from PA6 nano-composites for injection molding and extrusion processing.

NycoFlex – a top-quality and inexpensive alternative
Nycoa’s patented NycoFlex is a PA6 co-polymer, which offers the performance of TPE in conjunction with the extremely high chemical and thermal properties of nylon at a very competitive price. The product excels in terms of it high degree of flexibility and rigidity with a flexural elasticity modulus of between 18 and 180 ksi as well as excellent tenacity and impact resistance. Failure of the material – even in the event of repeated stretching and compression even in environments with high or low temperatures – is almost impossible. The Shore hardness lies between 45 and 72 D and the water absorption totals between 1.0 and 2.0 %. The range comprises impact-resistant, flame-retardant, UV- and heat-stabilizing as well as antibacterial and antimicrobial products. The colors can be adapted to customer-specific requirements.

NycoFlex is particularly suitable for extruding films and plates, complex profiles and flexible hoses and can be applied to products used in sports, automobiles, medicine, fasteners and mandrels for high-pressure industrial hoses.

NycoTrans – transparent co-polymer for injection molding and extrusion
The NycoTrans products – a range of patented PA6/69 materials – allow for inexpensive substitution of PA12, transparent nylons and other nylon co-polymers. The benefit of NycoTrans is its transparency of up to thicknesses of 5 mm as well as it high degree of rigidity and tenacity. In comparison to PA12, the product offers excellent chemical resistance at considerably lower cost. Further advantages include the fulfillment of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements, whereby it is also suitable for drinking water-quality contents in the PVC sector, as well as it broad range of colors, so J&A.

The injection molding applications include chemical lenses, through-flow measurement lenses, spectacle frames, toothbrush handles as well as housings for switching cabinets, pumps, filters, etc. Extrusion allows the production of bulky goods packaging, top-quality fishing lines, pneumatic hoses, decorative films, etc.
