BASF: Dr Markus Kamieth becomes new Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors

Dr Markus Kamieth (53) will become Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE at the end of the Annual Meeting on 25 April 2024. This was decided by the Supervisory Board at its meeting on 20 December 2023. Dr Markus Kamieth has been a member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE since 2017. He succeeds Dr Martin Brudermüller (62), who has led the company as Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors since 2018 and has been a member of the Board of Executive Directors since 2006.

Dr Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE: "Martin Brudermüller has led BASF with courage and foresight since 2018. He has led BASF through exceptionally challenging times with great leadership strength and set a decisive course for the long-term success of the company. This includes, in particular, focussing on BASF's transformation towards climate neutrality. The Supervisory Board would like to thank Martin Brudermüller for his outstanding work. Markus Kamieth is an extremely competent and experienced successor who has achieved outstanding results for BASF in his many professional positions in Germany, the USA and Asia. He combines strategic foresight with operational realisation strength and will give new impetus to BASF's businesses and teams.

The Supervisory Board has appointed Anup Kothari (55), currently Head of the Nutrition & Health division, as a member of the Board of Executive Directors with effect from 1 March 2024. Anup Kothari began his career at BASF in North America and has held various positions in different divisions in the USA, Germany and China.

The Supervisory Board has appointed Dr Katja Scharpwinkel (54) as a member of the Executive Board and Labour Director with effect from 1 February 2024. She is currently Head of the Europe, Middle East, Africa region. She joined BASF in 2010 with the acquisition of the former Cognis and has managed various businesses since then.

Katja Scharpwinkel succeeds Dr Melanie Maas-Brunner (55), who has informed the Supervisory Board that she will not be renewing her contract, which runs until 31 January 2024. Bock: "The Supervisory Board regrets Melanie Maas-Brunner's wish, which has matured over a long period of time, to take on new professional challenges and would like to thank her sincerely for her services.

The Supervisory Board has extended the contract of Michael Heinz (59), member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, until the Annual General Meeting 2026. Michael Heinz has been a member of the Board of Executive Directors since 2011. He is responsible for the Agricultural Solutions, Nutrition & Health and Care Chemicals divisions as well as for the North America and South America regions.
