DuPont: New Lidding Sealant Makes Ready Meals Even Easier with Antifog (AF) Additive Adds Transparency to Lidding

Microwavable dinners just became more convenient with the new DuPont™ (www.dupont.com) Appeel® Lidding Sealant Resins and DuPont™ Appeel® AF. This topical surfactant solution carries an active anti-fogging agent that can be applied to a wide-range of peelable and non-peelable sealant films for products such as fresh produce and Home Meal Replacements (HMR). Anti-fog enhances the overall clarity of lidding and allows the consumer to have a window into a product, which helps curb concerns over freshness of refrigerated and single serving products.

Appeel® lidding sealant resins are designed to provide controlled adhesion to various container substrates (no cutting required), and can be combined with a variety of other films and resins to create an easy peel lidding structure that will resist tearing upon removal of the lid. Offering superior heat seal integrity at ambient and refrigerated conditions and unique self-venting characteristics, Appeel® lidding sealant resins combined with Appeel® AF provide a hermetically sealed package that is easy to open but maintains seal integrity through distribution and retail. In addition, this product combination offers the safety and security of a hermetically sealed package, as well as excellent puncture and tear resistance – meaning there’s no need for a box or additional packaging.

“DuPont packaging science is dedicated to innovation that addresses consumer desires for a hassle-free and healthy lifestyle,” said Terrance Kendig, senior market development specialist for DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers. “With today’s on-the-go society, consumers demand convenient packaging that allows them to spend less time preparing a meal and more time enjoying it.”

Appeel® AF joins a long line of DuPont anti-fog products and clear lidding materials that work to increase package transparency and esthetics at the retail level. Furthermore, anti-fog agents prevent fog formation on the surface of the film by altering the physical conditions that lead to fog. This is achieved by causing the condensed water to spread into a continuous film across the inner surface and offset the surface tension of water.

Appeel® lidding sealant resins combined with Appeel® AF provide a wide heat sealing temperature window, allowing for an easier and more forgiving packaging process. Appeel® AF is specifically designed to work in combination with Appeel® lidding sealant resins but can be applied to a wide range of peelable and non-peelable sealant films useful in packaging found in the marketplace. Appeel® lidding sealant resins in combination with Appeel® AF will not degrade seal integrity when applied under the correct conditions in most cases. Typical container substrates for effective use are PP (polypropylene), HIPS (high impact polystyrene), PVC (poly vinyl chloride) and forms of polyester such as APET, CPET and PETG.
