DuPont: New Singapore plant expands global manufacturing network for Vespel® parts

DuPont Engineering Polymers (www.dupont.com) recently announced that production for its high growth DuPont™ Vespel® parts and shapes has begun at its newest facility in Singapore. Other production facilities for Vespel® parts and shapes are located in Utsunomiya, Japan; Mechelen, Belgium; and Newark, Del., and Valley View, Ohio, in the United States.

“The world is facing important challenges that drive the need for innovative materials. DuPont has a wealth of materials science knowledge to provide solutions to address some of these issues. This new Vespel® site enables us to provide high performance offerings to meet global market needs” said Ms Diane Gulyas, group vice president, DuPont Performance Materials Platform at the opening ceremony.

“DuPont invested in this expanded Vespel® capacity in order to support our customers’ growth and market needs. It joins four other Vespel® part plants which are strategically located globally so that we can ensure rapid delivery of high-quality products anywhere around the world,” said Alexa Dembek, global business director for Vespel®. “This new state of the art facility underscores the Vespel® business’s ability to meet global market needs by delivering big science, part by part, faster than ever before. It incorporates the latest advances in process technology and lean manufacturing techniques.

For more than 40 years, Vespel® parts have been delivering friction and wear solutions that can improve system performance and increase efficiency and life, while reducing weight and costs. Providing an unmatched combination of high temperature resistance, low wear, low friction, chemical resistance, precision, toughness and structural strength, they are used in the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas and semiconductor manufacturing industries, to name a few.

Automotive Applications
Within the automotive sector, for example, the Vespel® business has delivered high-performance, cost-effective solutions for critical motion- and fluid control systems, ranging from seal rings, thrust washers and spool valves to fork pads and solenoids in drivelines, and in vehicle emission systems, including bushings in EGR (exhaust-gas recirculation) systems and by-pass valves. In heavy-duty and off-road transmissions and hydraulic motors, Vespel® delivers cost-effective seal rings and thrust washers to meet demands for short lead times and low-volume production.

Aerospace and Oil Refining
In the aerospace industry, proven engine and airframe system applications include bushings, tube clamps, bumpers, wear pads and seals. For the oil refining, petrochemical, chemical, oil pipeline and power generation industries, Vespel® offers high performance pump wear components that increase reliability and efficiency while reducing costs.

Electronic Industries
Vespel® parts are widely proving their value across the semiconductor, flat panel display and electronics market places. Their unmatched combination of super cleanliness, low outgassing, low friction, wear resistance and the resistance to aggressive process fluids and high temperature have fueled their growing use in etching, cleaning, sputtering, CMP and handling for wafer and glass substrates. Proven application examples include clamping rings, chamber liners, insulator rings, retainer rings, end effectors and conductive pads.
