FKuR: New Biopolymers at Fakuma 2008

Latest FKuR (www.fkur.com) biomaterial innovations will be shown at Fakuma 2008.

Bio-Flex® VA 5100 CL is the worldwide first transparent biopolymer for blown film extrusion and can be processed on conventional blown film lines without adjustments to screws, dies and downstream equipment. Well known clear biopolymer PLA only runs on sheet and cast film lines. This recent result of Fraunhofer´s UMSICHT (www.umsicht.fraunhofer.de) and FKuR´s research work combines renewable base polymers with well chosen additives and compatibilizers by means of FKuR´s dedicated bio compounding process.

Blown Films made of Bio-Flex® VA 5100 CL are suitable for different applications as flower wrappings (Photo), bread, fresh food & vegetable packaging, wrapping for PLA-trays, paper laminates, thermoforming applications as well as barrier film for multilayer systems.

While almost all Wood Plastics Compounds (WPC) are made for extrusion or compression molding, Fibrolon® grades are made for injection molding. Fibrolon® F 9553 is even more unique since it has a renewable matrix (PLA). The mechanical properties are outstanding with a young´s modulus of about 4,000 MPa and a charpy impact strength of 15 kJ/m².

Molded Parts made of Fibrolon F 9553 can be found in automotive interior applications, office equipment and other technical parts.

Bioplastics are a class of polymer which have properties comparable to conventional polymers, but are made from renewable resources or enable the biodegradability of the products made from this material.
