TechnoCompound: Comprehensive portfolio of engineering compounds

At this year´s Fakuma 2008 TechnoCompound GmbH (www.technocompound.com) will be presenting three newly developed products:

• With TechnoMid PA6 or PA66 VN, TechnoCompound offers the world´s first radiation crosslinkable polyamide for injection moulding applications. Parts moulded in this newly developed material feature a considerably higher incandescent wire resistance than parts moulded in conventional PA – this will be convincingly demonstrated on TechnoCompound´s stand at Fakuma – and they are also suitable for other processes, including lead-free soldering (up to approx. 280 °C) and short-duration high-temperature soldering (up to approx. 450 °C).

• The odour test values of emission-reduced long fibre-reinforced polypropylene compounds are, at 2.5 to 3.0, extremely low. By comparison, standard PP compounds have odour test values in the region of 4.5 to 5. Consequently, these innovative high-performance compounds are ideal for the production of structural components for passenger car interiors. Typical examples are door trim modules, instrument panels and supporting structures for seats.

• A new addition to the TechnoElast family is a weather and UV resistant TPO compound (EPDM/PP), which is distinguished by its particularly good elastic properties. Among the first applications of this newly developed material is the production of the spoiler lip for the new VW Golf VI, which will be launched on the market in autumn 2008.

With these three innovative products, TechnoCompound has now extended its already comprehensive portfolio of engineering compounds for applications in the automotive, electrical and electronics industries and also in the sports equipment and mechanical engineering industries. Produced entirely at the production facility in Bad Sobernheim, TechnoCompound´s range of products includes polypropylene (PP) compounds reinforced with short or long glass fibres or mineral-filled, as well as compounds based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyamide (PA) 6 and 6.6 or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), either reinforced or unreinforced in each case, and TPE (EPDM/PP) compounds available in shore hardnesses from A to D.

LFT compounds – a growing market
One of the focal points of TechnoCompound´s portfolio is the production of long fibre reinforced thermoplastics based on PP and other thermoplastics. Depending on the actual case of application and the thermomechanical loads to which the parts may be subjected, these LFT compounds make ideal substitutes. Typical applications are the substitution of short glass fibre-reinforced engineering plastics by less costly LFT-PP compounds or the substitution of magnesium or aluminium diecastings by parts injection moulded in LFT-PET, for example. In such applications it is not only cost reduction that is a decisive aspect but also the more comprehensive possibilities of part design and function integration.

Included in the full service offered by TechnoCompound are its on-the-spot application-specific customer support and the development of compounds tailored to specific individual customer requirements. To keep pace with growing demand, TechnoCompound will be further expanding its team of application engineers before the end of the year.
