J&A Plastics: New blend types for automotive and electrical engineering technology

The J&A Plastics GmbH (www.j-a.de) has expanded its blend assortment with three thermoplastic compounds with innovative property combinations, which will be presented at the K 2004 in Düssel-dorf. The new blend types fulfil the EU Old Vehicle Guideline and are convincing with their excellent price-performance ratio. The highlight is an Anjablend S® PC blend that, among other things, was developed for vehicle interiors and, due to its optimal colour consistency, fulfils the Daimler/Chrysler “hot light aging” standard.

Anjablend S® PC blend with high hot light aging resistance. Searing sunshine and temperature fluctuations of up to 100 degrees Celsius quickly fade the colours in vehicle interiors. The new Anjablend S® finally puts an end to this. It is convincing not only in its extraordinarily high and long-term fade resistance, but also in terms of good surface hardness in conjunction with excellent impact behaviour – even at cold temperatures. A further benefit offered by this type is its high deflection temperature of up to 130 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the plastic components are easy to lacquer, weld and adhere. The technically complex product is available in all automotive colours and fulfils the requirements of the designers. Anjablend S® is versatile and can be used in both vehicle interiors and exteriors, for example for panels in the instrument carriers, glove compartment lids, radiator grilles, and also for large-scale structured parts. Further applications include all areas in which colour stability is required even under high thermal loads and UV radiation, such as in office communications, household appliances and laboratory technology, to name but a few.

Anjadur® PBT/ASA blend with low tendency to wrap and good UV and weathering stability. In contrast to the pure PBT-GF product, the new fibreglass reinforced material combination (GF 20, GF 30) offers a considerably lower distortion tendency, very good surface appearance and maintains its shape even at temperatures of up to 170 degrees Celsius. The colour consistency is considerably better than in the case of PBT, ABS or PC/ABS qualities – even under extreme sun radiation and high temperature fluctuations. Due to its good electrical and insulating properties, the new blend is suitable for motor electrics and electronics applications, such as connectors, couplings, boxes and housings, for example, but also for the household appliance industry, as the PBT/ASA type has a high degree of material consistency against chemicals and stress crack. Processors profit from the thermal stability and the good mould filling behaviour.

Anjadur® PBT/PET blend with excellent thermal properties and high rigidity. The material combination with PET is an inexpensive alternative, which stands out in terms of its high deflection temperature, high rigidity and impact resistance. The thermal properties are better than in the case of comparable PBT products and PC/PBT blends. Applications for the new blend include technical moulded components for the automotive, electrical engineering and machine construction industries, where a high degree of resistance to oils, greases and fuels is imperative. This type can, for example, be used for motor housings for windscreen wipers or housing parts in automotive electrics.
