Johns Manville: Lighter wind blades at lower costs

Johns Manville (JM) launched a new standard, UniTex® for its Rovings 086 and 076 with improved linear density (Tex) consistency, enabling weavers and wind blade manufacturers to further optimize process control during the infusion process and modern automation techniques used in composites.

Johns Manville Roving 086 has also been approved by Germanischer Lloyd for use in wind turbines and is also suitable for marine applications.

"Wind blades are so much more than glass fibers and resin. Crucial to their design, manufacturing process and performance are engineering innovation. UniTex® delivers better weight consistent fabrics enabling wind blade manufacturers to reduce glass and resin consumption for lighter blades at a lower total system cost. Commitment to value, continuous investment in automation and higher consistency standards are key challenges for the future success of the industry," noted Philippe Bekaert at Johns Manville Fibers Europe. JM is positioned to meet these current and future challenges.
