SKZ: Dr. Alexander Vyhnal Appointed New Head of Injection Molding and Additive Manufacturing

At the SKZ (Plastics Center) in Würzburg, Dr. Alexander Vyhnal took over as Head of the “Injection Molding and Additive Manufacturing” department in July 2025. He succeeds Georg Schwalme, who retired after many years of service at SKZ.

Vyhnal holds a doctorate in chemistry and has more than two decades of experience in senior positions in industrial research and development. His professional focus lies in the practical application and further development of plastics technologies, particularly in the fields of injection molding and additive manufacturing.

With this change in leadership, SKZ aims to further expand its expertise in research and education. According to Dr. Benjamin Baudrit, Deputy Managing Director for Research and Education, the center emphasizes the combination of industry-relevant training and applied research. Vyhnal’s experience is expected to especially strengthen the transfer of new technologies into industrial practice.

The new department head plans to intensify the integration of digital learning formats with hands-on training on modern equipment. Together with his team of around 20 scientists and trainers, he intends to develop practical solutions for the plastics industry and promote knowledge exchange between research and companies.

Nationwide, SKZ is recognized as an important competence center for plastics engineering research and training, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
