From 10th until 12th June, 2008 the Kreyenborg Group (www.kreyenborg-group.de) arranged its 5th symposium under the title „Extrusion and Polymerisation today”. Specialists of the branch presented the current trends and latest methods in the fields of machine and processing technology.

As leading supplier of systems and components for extrusion and polymerisation the Kreyenborg Group consists of three companies. The Kreyenborg GmbH is world market and technology leader in the field of melt filtration. Additionally they offer melt pumps and –valves, infrared rotating drums, mixers as well as silos. Whilst BKG Bruckmann & Kreyenborg Granuliertechnik GmbH is the specialist for turnkey underwater pelletizing systems, BSG Bruckmann Steuerungstechnik GmbH is known for complete automation solutions.

Following the established concept of the event, this year’s symposium of the Kreyenborg Group again took place at a prominent location – at the idyllically situated Gut Havichhorst in Münster. A mixture of exciting speeches, roundtable discussions and demonstrations in the lab line enabled the participants to get a detailed overview of latest technologies and developments in plastics processing. The three day’s event was divided into the fields extrusion with two days and polymerisation with one day.

Leading engineering companies and other specialists offered the participants from all parts of Europe a wide range of possibilities and application examples. The daily programmes of the event were topped off by exquisite evening events, during which the Kreyenborg Group met its role as host clearly.

The first day of the symposium was dedicated to the topics extrusion and recycling. Besides general developments of the branch and various extruder- and machine concepts also melt filtration was an important topic. Here especially the unique concept of the volume flow constant filtration with the Kreyenborg V-type screen changer in different processes has been explained by users.

The second day dealt with the subject compounding, whereas all fields – from dosing to control – had been covered. In addition to system suppliers also end users gave a lecture on their experiences with different tasks. The underwater pelletizing systems of BKG and the automatisation concepts of BSG were especially highlighted as key components for compounding.

Finally polymerisation dominated the third day of the symposium. Here the latest developments of all steps of the process were presented. Also in this context the Kreyenborg Group could present a new filtration concept with its screen changer of the type Poly, which is perfectly supplemented by the BKG underwater pelletizing systems.

All in all the 5th Symposium Plastics Processing led to a consistently positive feedback of all parties. The Kreyenborg Group attaches great importance to a constant quality of the speeches and an interesting theme mixture, which gives a considerable benefit to the participants for their own applications.
