BSH Hausgeräte GmbH is planning a comprehensive restructuring of its production network in Germany. The background to this is a persistently weak market development, which has led to a permanent underutilization. The measures affect the Nauen (Brandenburg) and Bretten (Baden-Württemberg) sites, where production is to be successively discontinued in the coming years. The aim of the adjustments is to secure the company's competitiveness and future viability in a changing market environment. Production End in Nauen by Mid-2027, in Bretten by Early 2028 At the Nauen site, the manufacturing of washing machines is to be discontinued by mid-2027. The logistics functions located there will remain. In Bretten, the plan is to end the production of cookers and extractor hoods as well as logistics by the end of the first quarter of 2028. Other functions associated with the production areas are also to be reduced. Market Changes Require Structural Adjustments According to the company, the declining demand, changed consumer behavior, and customers' increased focus on lower-priced products are the main factors behind the decision. BSH does not expect a recovery in the market situation in the coming years either. The company regularly reviews the capacity utilization and economic efficiency of its international production sites. Around 1,400 Employees Affected – Talks on Socially Acceptable Solutions Announced Approximately 1,400 employees are affected by the planned changes – around 440 at the Nauen site and about 980 in Bretten. The employee representatives have been informed. Discussions to develop socially acceptable solutions are to begin promptly. According to the company, the legally anchored co-determination rights will be upheld. Relocation of Production within Europe The supply of the market with appliances from the affected product categories will in future essentially be carried out by other European production facilities. BSH continues to maintain extensive activities in Germany, including development centers, logistics, customer service, sales, and the corporate headquarters. Investments in German Sites Remain Despite the site adjustments, BSH reaffirms its long-term commitment to Germany as a production and innovation location. According to further company information, around 300 million euros have been invested in German sites over the past three years – primarily in the modernization of production, digitalization, automation, and research and development. Further investments are also planned for the coming years. More information: www.bsh-group.com |
