K.D. Feddersen: „Metal substitutes“, „Soft Touch“ and further product innovations

K.D. Feddersen GmbH & Co. KG, an established name in the distribution of engineering thermoplastic polymers for over 50 years, will be presenting new features and highlights from its product portfolio at Fakuma 2009, in Hall B 2 Booth 2209. As an added event this year, the Hamburg-based company with a long tradition is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its founding.

This year´s areas of special focus for K.D. Feddersen are metal substitutes, the "Soft Touch" surface texture and product innovations and additions to the portfolio.

Metal substitutes
The substitution of metals in all fields of industrial applications has seen further expansion in recent years. Benefits from the savings in weight are increasingly attracting attention in these times of high energy prices. However, additional arguments for a cost-effective and technically very interesting alternative to the metals previously used are the great creative freedom and extraordinary strength of engineering plastics.

Under the key concept of "metal substitutes", K.D. Feddersen is not just focusing on substitutes for die-cast metals, but is also offering for the first time materials with a metallic effect to replace metal surfaces in the visible area. The distributor´s portfolio offers specially modified products in the metallic segment based on POM, PBT, TPE-E and PP. "These products are ideal for a wide range of uses in applications in which a high-quality overall visual impression is essential, in addition to minimal weight and the ability to withstand high loads. These include decorative inserts, light switches and electrical equipment covers, small electrical appliances, curtain accessories, caps and end pieces for aluminium profiles, applications on sports equipment (e.g. skiing and cycling) and sanitary facilities," explains Patrick Bäßler, Application Engineering Manager at Feddersen GmbH & Co. KG.

Soft Touch
Alongside the visual quality of high-end consumer products and appliances, the tactile aspect cannot be overlooked. A pleasant, firm feel is often a determining factor in product selection and distinguishes high-quality brand-name products from cheap, mass-produced goods. In its product portfolio, K.D. Feddersen features polymers based on various raw materials in a broad Shore hardness range. Among these are also special grades for the medical industry.

Product innovations
According to the distributor, the product offering this year will feature a number of extremely interesting additions from manufacturing partners. These include products such as high temperature-resistant polyamides, polymers based on regenerative raw materials, a new generation of low-emission, impact-resistant-modified POM and modified TPE-O compounds.

This year again, K.D. Feddersen would like to devote special attention to the high level of its consultancy and service expertise. "Especially in this economic climate of increasing unpredictability, one of our strengths is offering reliable, flexible supply concepts," says Karlheinz Schuster, Managing Director of K.D. Feddersen GmbH & Co. KG. "Today, no one can afford to tie up their investment in warehouses full of raw materials. That´s why we offer our customers reliable, flexible just-in-time delivery direct to the production facility-even for small quantities," adds Schuster.
