The US-based producer of modular component-based robotic end-of-arm tooling and gripper systems, SAS Automation, recently introduced a new adjustable bag gripper for a variety of bag handling applications.

A custom bag gripper tool is often used to palletize woven cloth, plastic or paper bags containing heavy products including grains, chemicals, dog food, minerals and plastic resins. SAS Automation has designed an adjustable bag gripper that eliminates the need for costly custom tooling and can be adjusted quickly and easily in minutes for different production runs using a simple hand wheel.

This innovative gripper uses stainless steel fingers for both strength and their ability to withstand harsh manufacturing environments. A decker mechanism is designed into the tool to facilitate an accurate bag drop once positioned over the pallet - crucial for a tightly packed pall

Technical details of this bag gripper:

• Handles bag weights: 4kg - 45kg.
• Handles bag sizes: from 30 x 30 x 7,5cm up to 53 x 89 x 15cm (LxWxH).
• Gripper tool weight: 100kg (220 lbs) payload robots while handling 45,3kg (100 lbs) bags.
• Bearings are double-sealed for long life.
• Uses 5/8" diameter solid stainless steel radius fingers for long-lasting durability.
• Automated decker plates center bags on the conveyor and accurate bag drops for tight packing on pallet.
• Can be fitted with a servo drive to automatically adjust while on-the-move to accommodate mixed loads.
